At my first booksigning I brought along a basket stuffed with bookworm bags and by the end of the evening, they were gone. Bookworm bags are a quick easy way for authors to get their titles and book’s information under the eyes of potential readers. Convenient to snatch up because it’s not a bunch of loose items strewn on a goodie table, they are the perfect, eye-catching promo item.
Display them with a big sign that says” FREE Bookworm Bags (18 and older only) and you’ve got curious folks peeking to see what’s there. In order to customize the bags I’ve given away in the past, I include a signed letter explaining who I am, where to find my titles and what a bookworm bag is, so that the readers will check it out.
Some authors like to further warn readers by placing a bright red sticker on the bags that says something like: DANGER RED HOT ROMANCE ENCLOSED. This serves as a double warning for underage readers and piques curiosty for those old enough to indulge. I use celo party bags or goodie bags that are printed with romance theme images like hearts, lips, or roses.
Since that first signing, I’ve had many more and every time I do, I bring along bookworm bags. They’re a big hit with readers and often these readers want to discover new authors. This collective helps authors and readers come together.
